The predecessor to LaunchPort Manufacturing was Engineered Medical Systems (established in 1986) that maintained ISO-13485 Medical Device Manufacturing facilities based in Indianapolis, Penang, Malaysia and Baltimore. They were a privately held company specializing in manufacturing devices to client’s specifications, while developing and manufacturing their own line of proprietary disposable air management and electromechanical products. In mid 2021, the LaunchPort partners acquired the EMS-Baltimore assets in order to focus on emerging technologies that were in line with LaunchPort’s core venture interests.

LaunchPort announced new custom and contract manufacturing capabilities in 2022:
